Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer reviews assist editors in making editorial decisions and through editorial communication with authors can also assist the authors in improving articles

Promptness

Any selected decision-maker who feels qualified to review the research reported in the manuscript or knows that a quick review is not possible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.

Confidentiality

Any manuscripts that are accepted for review must be treated as confidential documents, may not be displayed or discussed with others except as permitted by the editor.

Standard of Objectivity

Reviews must be done objectively. The author's personal criticism is inappropriate. Decision makers must express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors. Any previously reported statements of observations, derivations, or arguments must be accompanied by the relevant citation. Reviewers should also call the editor's attention to any substantial similarities or overlaps between the manuscripts under consideration and other papers published based on their personal knowledge.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Confidential information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal gain. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest as a result of competitive, collaborative, other relationships or connections with the authors, companies, or institutions linked to the article.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Code of Conduct, Publication Ethics and Roles Responsibilities

Jurnal Perbankan dan Ekonomi Syariah (JEIPS) aims to maintain the highest levels of ethics for publication in order to accept quality scientific papers and inspire public trust in scientific findings. It also encourages article writers to be recognized for their contributions. The entire procedure is subject to the Publication Ethics (COPE) and its Best Practice Guidelines in every possible way.

Plagiarism
Any manuscript found to have copied content from another author’s work without proper citation will be considered plagiarized. The plagiarism screening process begins at the very start of the review, even before the manuscript reaches the reviewers, and continues during the editing stage. If plagiarism is detected after publication, the editor will immediately remove the article from the issue and report the violation of publication ethics.

Duplicate Submission
A manuscript will be labeled as a duplicate submission if it has already been published or is under review elsewhere. To avoid self-plagiarism, authors are required to properly reference any previously published or concurrently reviewed work that forms the basis of their current submission. This guideline must be followed once both works are in the public domain.

Citation Manipulation
Citation manipulation refers to the inclusion of false or intentionally misleading citations in a manuscript, aimed at artificially increasing citation counts for certain authors or journals.

Data Falsification
Altering graphs, images, or charts in submitted manuscripts to present inaccurate or misleading research findings may be classified as data falsification and considered a serious ethical violation.

Improper Author Attribution
Any reused content in a submitted manuscript must be properly credited in line with the licensing terms of the original source to ensure accurate author attribution.

Conflicts of Interest
Jurnal Perbankan dan Ekonomi Syariah (JEIPS) urges authors to avoid any potential conflicts of interest—also known as competing interests—that could be perceived as compromising the impartiality or objectivity of their research or its evaluation. Authors are required to disclose any circumstances that may pose a conflict, whether or not they directly influenced the work. Transparency in such matters supports fair decision-making and does not automatically prevent publication or participation in the review process.

If there is any uncertainty, authors are encouraged to disclose the potential interest or consult the editorial team. Failing to report a conflict of interest may lead to rejection, a reassessment of the submission, or withdrawal after publication.

Types of conflicts of interest include:

  1. Financial – Receipt or expectation of funding, compensation, or goods/services related to the research topic or from parties with a vested interest in the results.
  2. Affiliations – Employment, advisory roles, or memberships in organizations with a stake in the outcome.
  3. Intellectual Property – Ownership of relevant patents or trademarks.
  4. Personal – Relationships with individuals connected to the research (e.g., family, friends, or partners).
  5. Ideological – Beliefs or activism, including political or religious views, that relate to the research.
  6. Academic – Relationships with competitors or individuals whose work is being critiqued.

Authors must disclose all recent or current funding and support that could influence the research, regardless of perceived relevance. All funding sources must be listed in the ‘Acknowledgments’ section, and any declared conflicts will be taken into account by editors and reviewers, and noted in the final published article.

For Editors and Reviewers:
Editors and reviewers should recuse themselves from handling a manuscript if they:

  1. Have a recent or ongoing submission with any of the authors.
  2. Are currently collaborating or have recently collaborated with any author.
  3. Have a financial stake in the research subject.
  4. Are unable to remain impartial.

JEIPS actively works to avoid assigning reviewers who may have a conflict of interest. Reviewers must notify the journal of any conflicts and, if necessary, decline the review. Any relevant disclosures should be included in the ‘Confidential’ section of the review form. Reviewers who are direct competitors are encouraged to step aside. Editors and reviewers must also reveal any prior discussions with the authors regarding the manuscript during the initial editorial review.

Sanctions for Policy Violations

If there is credible evidence that an author has breached any of the journal’s ethical policies—whether or not the violation occurred within JEIPS—the following penalties may apply:

  1. Immediate rejection of the manuscript found in violation.
  2. Automatic rejection of any other submissions by the same author(s) for the next two publication cycles (12 months).
  3. The author(s) may be blacklisted or have their account downgraded from author to reader status.
  4. All authors involved may be barred from joining the JEIPS Editorial Board.

In serious cases, the publisher reserves the right to impose additional sanctions beyond those listed above.
